The spring started off this year with one of my favorite events. The David Adams Classic at Oaklawn. This year was a little different from years' past because this year Mitch was up for the honor of Man of the Year for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society so our annual event was even more important because those funds would help with his campaign. We had a great group at the races that day, this is just a few of the many people that came out to support the event. We had over 40 people come out on to the track to crown the horse after the race. This picture includes from left, the National Director of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and many of Davids family and friends. It is so good to see everyone each year and still get to celebrate David's life with those he loved the most.
Although the picture is not very clear here is most of the group on the field to present the trophy. Such a special day to honor David. I know he would be so proud of his friends for continuing his legacy by raising funds to support leukemia research. It was character week at B's school that next week so she woke up ready for school each day. Here is a pic of my little Cinderallee
and my little superwoman to the rescue
Our turbie twist towels that G gave the girls were a big hit after all that dressing up.
Spring break week started off with a really special event for a special little girl Miss Lila McAlister who went to be with her heavenly father this winter. Several of her family and friends got together and organized a race in her memory and this was their first ever event. It was a huge success with hundreds of runners and my family took part. WE were in the walking division with all the kiddos but so glad to be a part of such a special day.
These two actually did try to run but it was very short lived!!
AB and Grif at the finish line...he was quite the speedster. AB did great but had a spill and ended up walking with the rest of the group. She did great though for her first full 5k.
The whole fam made it all the way to the finish line.
and my favorite part was that the girls got to help with the balloon release and they were so excited to be sending balloons all the way up to heaven for Lila to enjoy.
Later that day we took the kids for their first ride around the go cart track. The girls had the best time we ended up making several round on the track that day and as you will see later in the post it ended up being one of several trips we would make there before the week was over.
That Monday and Tuesday I had to work the week of spring break so the girls went to Nana and Pops house were they were spoiled rotten and did a little gardening.
I picked them up that Tuesday and we headed straight to Lake Katherine were the Ralphs were camping. The girls and I went hiking to the waterfalls and even dipped our toes in that cold water.
Happy, happy momma!
That week I got sent this text that AB had made the local paper thanks to Nicki who made sure this girls skills didn't go unnoticed.
and then after the lake we headed into town where we met up with aunt Brandee, Mason, Max and the McCray family. and you guessed it we were back at the track in no time. The kids had a blast with the other kiddos and we ended up staying all night long!
The next morning we were back at it and headed straight to Mid America Museum for a day of fun with the cousins and friends. The kids had a blast exploring all the new exhibits since the reopening of the museum. The hidden cave was their favorite!
B's windblown look!
G went with with us to the museum..I think we wore her out!
Then the girls and I headed to Little Rock with Brandee for a sleepover and were back on the road the next day to Texarkana for dance class. As AB said we were all over the place that week and she was really pretty right about that! We came back that night and spent the night with my parents before heading out the next morning back to Hot Springs.
Our friends the Gentry's met us there and the kiddos made their 3rd trip back to the arcade for a third round on the track!
and to the real track at Oaklawn with their dads. I think they liked it just as much!
oh and a stop at Purple Cow for a milkshake to follow...
It made for a great end to a great spring break week full of friends, family and most of all great memories!
