Key West 2019

Vacation 2019 was under way!  We started off by driving to Dallas and then flew straight to Ft. Lauderdale airport.  We rented a car and headed to Miami Beach to kick off vacation.

Then we headed south to the Everglades National Park.  I have always wanted to go to the Everglades.  So I was probably most excited about this opportunity.

We even got to do one of my favorite things from the trip.  We went on an airboat ride.  It was a blast!!!  I loved every second.
WE got to hold a few new friends...

and see some other ones.  Not picking that baby up!

Then after that we headed even further south to the Florida Keys.  This highway was amazing...views like this for miles and miles.  I must say it is breathtaking!
We spent the first night in Islameralda, one of the northern keys.  it was a beautiful hotel right on the beach and we spent the entire evening just sitting by the water.

Dinner on the water that evening.

The next morning we were back up and on the road.  We stopped at one of the coolest spots.  We ate lunch right on the beautiful blue water and then got to feed tarpon fish.  I had never seen these but they are absolutely huge and come jumping out of the water to eat.  It is a bit nerve wracking.  I was the only one in the family brave enough to even try.

We arrived later that evening to Key West.  We spent the night walking the streets and trying all the good eats.
Our hotel was an old historic hotel on the water.  It was so beautiful and had lots of history and beautiful scenery.

And lots of fun lizards and creatures that kept you on your toes.

The next day we went to a public beach to swim a bit.  The seaweed was really rough at our resort and actuall all around the island.  It even had quite the smell!  So we tried out a public beach but it too had lots of seaweed, so we decided to get out on the water instead.
And if you have never been to Key West you better be ready to hear the chickens and roosters cock a doodle do! These roosters roam free all over the island.  They are in the streets, on the resorts, in the restaurants.  Everywhere!  We got our wake up call each morning from the rooster outside our window.  It is really something else!
Our resort...
We rented a small boat and drive to take us out on a little excursion one afternoon.  It was really nice, just the 4 of us on the boat and he was a local so he showed us lots of local spots and even knew all the places to take us to kayak.  We had these see through kayaks so we can take in the sights underneath us.  We went to a mangrove off of an island and wondered all through the middle of it on the kayaks. We even saw a small nurse shark.

A wonderful dinner spot..
And the iconic southernmost point in the US.

AB's favorite part of Key West...the key lime pie they are famous for.  We made it our mission to try a piece at every local spot each day to find the very best.  I think we tried them all!

Brit even found a way to relax and do a little reading by the pool.
We took a tour of Ernest Hemingway's house.  It was pretty cool to see all the history and of course the 6 toed cats that still roarm there!

B had to get a rooster hat!

Duval Street

Mile 0
Mallory Square
My little beach beauties!

We rented a golf cart one day for a tour of the entire island.  It was so much fun zipping around town on that and way better than all the walking we had been doing for several days.

Butterfly Museum was awesome!

Lunch on the way home. WE spent the final day stopping on our 2 hour drive back north.  We made sure to check out each of the Florida Keys.
And even tried a Key lime ice cream pop.
Our last night was spent on the Ft. Lauderdale beach.  Brit finally got to swim in the waves and we watched the sunset on our last day of vacation.

Loved all the sweet memories made and love hanging out with my favorite people regardless of where we are!
