California Dreamin Part 1

The 4th of July wouldn't be the same without starting it off at our church for the annual celebration.  The girls were so excited to have their cousins in town this year to celebrate with them.  The night started off with a bike parade followed by fireworks.

AB was so excited to get to help paint faces as well!
My first responsibility for The CALL helping these girls gather donations for the event.
Another set of cute cousins..lots of sweet girls in this photo!
As always, the show was amazing!!

OH and B and I got to work the snow cones...we stayed super busy all night!

And then the next morning we were off!  I had exactly a week and half before i started my new job so we planned a very last minute vacation to the California coastline.  It was very spur of the moment so I booked a flight to San Diego and out of Los Angeles..beyond that we decided to play it by ear, not hotels or cars lined up we would just take it day by day.  I liked the idea, Mitch wasn't so sure about it...but it turned out awesome!  I pricelined last minute hotel deals the whole trip and we had some amazing stays at a discount. We arrived late on July 5th to San Diego just in time for a look at the pool and a late night dinner in the Gaslamp District.

The next morning we woke up early for a little exercise down the boardwalk and to check out some really cool boats!

Then the girls took an impromptu swim in the pool to cool off, clothes and all!

That afternoon we made a trip to the world famous San Diego Zoo.  It is such a neat place, Mitch and I had been before but I didn't even remember how amazing this place was to visit.

Up, up and away we went for an aerial view of the park.

The polar bears were my favorite!

Then after the zoo, we headed over to Coronado Island for a late lunch and some sightseeing.

by bike...let's just say if you want to go very far I don't recommend this route!  I don't think all passengers were pulling their weight on the ride.

And then headed back to the hotel for a little swimming and dinner at the Seaport Village.

The next morning we were up and out early headed to get our rental car and take to the road!
First stop, Old San Diego for an authentic Mexican breakfast!
Next up, we headed to LaJolla for some beach time for the day.  The girls loved all the seals and swimming in a different kind of ocean than they were used to with all the rocks and and such they weren't used to seeing in the gulf.

We stood and watched the seals for quite some time.

The water was a little cooler than they were used to even though they were having warm weather for July in California.

We did some rock climbing and exploring for a few hours

and then headed to the famous Taco Stand for a late lunch.  It was worth the wait!
From there we basically stayed in our swimsuits and spent an afternoon exploring every beach between LaJolla and Laguna.
and even squeezed in a few of dads favorite sites!  Golf....

and horse racing!  Unfortunately, The park was closed but we made a trip to Del Mar anyways!

On up the coast to more mountains and oceans...
Until we arrived at our final destination for the day...Laguna Beach.  WE loved this quaint hotel on the beach so much we stayed 3 nights!  It was walking distance from everything in town and had the best service!

Dinner on the ocean with these cuties!
And the next morning we grabbed a cup of coffee and spent several hours checking out the surfers and hitting the waves.

We even found a wildlife biologist that explained the reefs to the girls and how those were all living creatures that they were stepping on and around.

Seriously love these views of the California coast!
That afternoon we got to do something mom has always wanted to do...we went to the Pageant of the Masters!  It is an awesome art show and exhibit of paintings come to life.  They even had a free family day that happens only once a year that day and the girls got into all kinds of awesome activities!
They were doing a show by the winners of America's Got Talent, LePetit Cirque..these kids were amazing!

Free tattoos...

Slime,
and awesome balloons!

and I got to check out all the fabulous artwork on display!

Then we headed down the street to the Sawdust Festival full of cool, unique arts and crafts!
The girls even got to try their hand at the wheel of clay!

That night we headed out for an amazing dinner on the beach with Shirley Temples all around!

Next stop LA...and I don't mean Lower Arkansas!!  These small town girls are headed to the big city!
